We have worked in this industry for a long time and get asked this question daily and always answer honestly.
We strongly belief rubber mats are far more superior than the more modern EVA mats you get today. That’s not to say we don’t advise them, for the right horse and situation they are fantastic as they are lightweight and provide excellent comfort.
But we have found with Eva mats being made from a much softer compound than rubber they stretch and tend to curl over time, resulting in mats that can create trip hazards and need replaced more often. But if you are looking for something more short term and lightweight for easy moving than they are ideal. We recommend Eva’s for older horses with leg or hoof problems that might benefit from the extra cushion of the EVA mat.
The same is true with rubber topped EVA’S, the base is still made from a much softer compound than rubber, therefor the same stretching will occur as standard Eva’s and the thin rubber top will wear much quicker than a standard rubber mat.
Not only are rubber mats extremely durable they are also brilliant for adding warmth and comfort to your stable and guaranteed to last years. We stock both 18mm, 22mm & 25mm thick mats for stable floors, and they will withstand road nails and studs that Eva mats cannot.
Therefor our answer is…. Yes we strongly believe rubber mats are better than Eva mats. We do recommend them for your stable walls for the ultimate finish, protection, and comfort.
Over the years in this business, we have tried and tested just about every type of stable mat you can imagine, and, in our opinion, nothing comes close to our high quality rubber stable mats we supply and install today.
