Here is our 5 step foolproof instructions for those wanting to fit their own mats. Please note this is not the exact way we bond and seal rubber mats but is a great alternative when tools and time are limited.
TOOLS YOU WILL NEED!!!
Tape Measure, Sharp Stanley Knife, 600ML Barrel Gun, Mixer attachment for Drill, 3mm V Notched Serrated Trowel. Optional – Joint Cutter
Step One – Prepare the surface
ENSURE THE STABLE IS CLEAN AND DRY, SWEEP OR VACUUM UP EXCESS DIRT AND DUST. IF THE AREA IS EXTREMELY DUSTY SOMETIMES THE CONCRETE BASE BENEFITS WITH BEING PRIMED.
CONCRETE BASE MUST BE FLAT AND IN GOOD CONDITION. PLEASE NOTE MATS WILL NOT BOND TO A HEAVILY TAMPED SERVICE.
Step TWO – CUT MAT’S TO SIZE
IT IS BEST TO CUT MATS IN LOOSE, COVERING THE FULL STABLE. START WITH A FULL MAT IN THE DOORWAY WHERE POSSIBLE TO AVOID JOINS AND SMALLER CUTS ARE TO THE BACK AND SIDES. A STANLEY KNIFE WITH A SHARP BLADE IS THE BEST TOOL TO USE FOR CUTTING THE MATS.
ONCE ALL THE MATS HAVE BEEN CUT IN LOOSE, STARTING WITH THE MATS AT THE BACK OF THE STABLE DOUBLE THE MATS BACK ONTO THEMSELVES LONGWAYS TO ALLOW FOR BONDING.
Step THREE – BOND MATS TO THE FLOOR
FOLLOWING THE MIXING INSTRUCTIONS MIX BOTH THE SUPERFLEX MEMBRANE RESIN AND HARDENER TOGETHER.
SPREAD TIGHTLY WITH A 3MM V NOTCHED SERRATED TROWEL OR LIGHTLY WITH THE FLAT EDGE OF A METAL FLOAT.
LAY MATS BACK IN PLACE ONTO THE WET SUPERFLEX MEMBRANE INTO PERMANENT POSITION.
Step Four – SEAL MATS
APPLY A BEAD OF Q/FLEX USING A BARREL GUN ALONG OPEN SIDES OF MATS BEFORE PUTTING THE NEXT MAT INTO PLACE.
CARRY ON UNTIL ALL THE MATS ARE IN PLACE ENSURING THAT THEY ARE PUSHED UP TIGHT.
USE THE Q/FLEX AROUND THE PERIMETER TO SEAL THE EDGE.
Q/FLEX SEALER LEFT ON THE TOP OF THE MATS WILL PEEL AWAY WHEN THE AREA IS PUT INTO USE.
Step five – oPTIONAL DOORWAY STRIP
DOORWAY STRIPS ARE AVAILABLE TO FINISH ACROSS OPEN EDGES AND DRAINS.
THESE ARE SET ONTO A BED Q/FLEX AND DRILLED AND FIXED DOWN WITH DRIVE SCREWS FOR A FULLY SECURE FIT.
